The indian tepee

Good morning everyone.
Speaking of houses, today we wish to consider a very special house: the tepee.
The tepee was a conical tent used by American Indians, made of wooden poles covered with buffalo skins, waterproofed. Its construction was always assigned to women and was not an easy one. The tepees were usually decorated with drawings recounted the legends of the tribe. A hole in the top of the tent allowed the smoke of bonfires. The floor was covered with buffalo skins. The Indians of the Great Plains of North America were nomadic people: they needed  portable home. All members of the family lived in the same tepee. The space in front of the door must  always to  remain free and everyone had their place to sit according to the role, need, age.
The couches were arranged on the side opposite the entrance, and between a bed and the other were placed some bags of leather which contained dried buffalo meat. From the walls hung wooden spoons, pipes, bags of leather for garments and utensils, medicine bundles containing the talismans of the family. The tepee was also the place where occured the transmission of knowledge and memory. The tents were usually arranged in a circle.
Native American Indians lived in harmony with the environment around them. Their social life was based on mutual respect, generosity, justice and fairness.
Today, the tepee is covered with canvas and inhabited by families who attend the Native tribal councils or erect camps in which they transmit, to younger generations, the traditions of the group. They are often used as shops for tourists.
Goodbye.
