Today we dedicate our post to the Automobile Museum of Turin which from March 20, 2011 is again reopened to the public, after extensive renovations. Visitors can now take a trip in the history of the car following three exhibition sections:
- Car and ‘900
- Car and Design
- Car and man.
The creator of this new production is François Confino, the same man who designed the Museum of Cinema in the Mole.
The car museum was founded in 1932 and also includes a library, an archive and a documentation center.
The collection of 180 cars on display are literally staged : each model has its setting based on the historical and social context in which it was born, with images and video commentary explaining their historical significance and specificity. For example, the carriage of Bordino of 1854, turned into a powered car thanks to a steam boiler is accompanied by a horses movie that vanish. The '70s are represented by a Volkswagen minibus: on the windows scroll through the images of Easy Rider or Woodstock. A Trabant car and a Charlie check-point symbolize the fall of the Berlin Wall.
It ' s a show suitable for a wide audience, including families. Inside the building there are restaurant, café and bookshop.
The most innovative section is dedicated to the design: it will open in September and it will also host the latest cars.
This museum has its feet in the past and a vision for the future.

Buongiorno amici.Oggi dedichiamo il nostro post al Museo dell’Automobile di Torino che dal 20 Marzo scorso è di nuovo riaperto al pubblico, dopo una lunga ristrutturazione. I visitatori possono ora fare un viaggio nella storia dell’auto seguendo 3 percorsi espositivi:
- Automobile e il ‘900
- Automobile e il Design
- Automobile e l’uomo.
L’ideatore di questo nuovo allestimento è François Confino, lo stesso uomo che ha realizzato il Museo del Cinema nella Mole Antonelliana.
Il Museo dell’Automobile nacque nel 1932 e comprende anche una biblioteca, un archivio, un centro di documentazione e l’emeroteca.
Le 180 auto della collezione esposte sono letteralmente messe in scena: ogni modello ha la sua scenografia ispirata al contesto storico e sociale in cui è nato, con immagini e video di commento d’epoca che ne spiegano l’importanza e la specificità. Ad esempio, la carrozza di Bordino del 1854, trasformata in veicolo motorizzato grazie ad una caldaia a vapore è accompagnata da un filmato di cavalli da tiro che svaniscono. Gli anni ’70 sono rappresentati da un pulmino Volkswagen, tagliato per lungo: sui finestrini scorrono le immagini di Easy Rider o del concerto di Woodstock. Una vettura Trabant con il check-point Charlie simboleggiano la caduta del muro di Berlino.
E’ una mostra adatta ad un pubblico vasto, famiglie comprese. All’interno della struttura vi sono anche ristorante, caffè e book-shop.
La sezione più innovativa, dedicata al Design, aprirà a settembre ed ospiterà anche le vetture recenti.
Si tratta dunque di un Museo vivo, con i piedi nel passato ed un occhio rivolto al futuro.
